am in a similar sort of setting, currently in Cerro de Pasco at 4500m above sealevel. is great after you get over the altitude sickness. this is a city of 70000 people build around a mine, the whole thing is a shanty town and very dirty, although the valleys outside are beautiful with the llamas and stone walls, and mud huts and stuff. is lots of fun.
