THE GIRL'S PRAYER
Our CashWhich art on plastic
Hallowed be thy name
Thy Cartier watch
Thy Prada bag
In Myer
As it is in David Jones
Give us each day our Platinum Visa
And forgive us our overdraft
As we forgive those who stop our Mastercard
And lead us not into Sportsgirl
And deliver us from Portmans
For thine is the Dinnigan,
the Akira and the Armani
For Chanel No.5
and Eternity
Amex.
THE BOYS PRAYER
Our beerWhich art in bottles
Hallowed by thy sport
Thy will be drunk
I will be drunk
At home as it is in the pub
Give us each day our daily schooners
And forgive us our spillage
As we forgive those who spillest against us
And lead us not into the practice of poofy wine tasting
And deliver us from Tequila
For mine is the bitter
The chicks and the footy
Forever and ever
Barmen.

Gold...
Thanx b00f, I have used this for years & rest assured- it works....
Boof you forgot to precise that it is an aussie girls and boys prayer!!!
coz it's kind of hard for me to identify myself with sportgirl, portmans, myer, David Jones...nevertheless Chanel,Mastercard, Prada, Armani seem familiar;)
boof - little disappointed with the blasphemy here... come on...
seriously?
yeah, seriously, you have taken the lords prayer and turned it into a joke about getting drunk and materialism. yeah, seriously.
yeah seriously, you two need to get a sense of humour. seriously.
A great quote I read the other day which is really challenging me goes like this: The way to tell if a person knows God for real, and I mean knows God for real, is that they will fear Him ….. it seems like if you really knew the God who understands the physics of our existence, you would operate a little more cautiously, with a little more compassion, and a little less like you are the centre of the universe. (pg 38, Searching for God Knows What, Donald Miller).
So its not about “getting a sense of humour”, its about having a reverent fear for the entity that created this whole thing, and respecting whats sacred to a whole lot of people. If that means that I don’t have a sense of humour, then I’m happy to be called boring and unfunny. Just my point of view, do with it what you want.
I am of the opinion that we should have more respect for the teachings of Jesus than to turn them into punchlines. Sure it may get a laugh, but its a cheap one, and I reckon we should be smarter than that.
Gee, I like to have a laugh as much as the next person but it seems to be an ongoing theme in certain groups that the word of GOD is continuosly losing its power in our lives because of the lack of rever we have for it. We find it so much easier to joke and laugh than to apply and live... it certainly reflects our values and where we are at with our walk with the Lord... what a witness to the many people who come to this site, especially the new christians who thirst for serious faithfilled christian friends... where is the fire???
Seeing it from both sides:
I actually wasn't going to be bothered commenting on this post but was prompted by fellow bloggers. I was quite happy to shun it and not really give it any attention or added value of my comment.
I love how something shallow can lead to something deep on El Rancho by accident. I'm all for reverent fear of the almighty Lord and saviour of my bacon! Obviously things that don't honor God are not as good as those that do - humour included. As I like to say "Let's Bring it back to worship!"
I put this rip-off prayer right up there with the quality of cheesy Christian tshirts that say Jesus Christ in Coca-Cola writing - equally as distasteful and uncreative. - frankly don't think God would want anything to do with coke. However Christians have been ripping off the world's icons to point to Jesus for a while. But I dare not say whether someone knows God or not by their choice of humour. Teetering on judging if you ask me.
Would you also get upset if someone referenced Song of Solomon in a secular valentine's card? There's a magnitude of times Christians have adapted worldly things to 'creatively' say what they want it to say and that's really funny and sad at the same time. Sad but funny!
All this aside - the posted 'prayer' does not mention Christ, direcly take the Lord's name in vain nor does it even say Amen. It references a part of the bible religious culture knows well. I suggest if only more of us referenced parts of the Bible in context we'd all be in a better place.
P.S. In the end of the day if I had God's postal address don't think I'd be signing my name to a card that had this little poem on the inside... let's bring it back to worship!
PS.S. How the heck did this comment get so long!
red rolle and anon - I understand. i also don't want to appear judgmental in my previous post - as i said, they were donald millers words and they were challenging me.
back to worship - aiiee.
It's ok Nelson you certainly didn't seem judgemental more passionate about preserving the fundamentals of our faith. Paul is plain about being all things to all men when connecting with unbelivers and I agree. The Big Issue is really Perception & the message sent to those who know god & those who don't. Corinthians talks about being careful how we exercise our freedom so it doesn't become a stumbling block to the weak. & how everything is permisable yet not everything is benefical. Sometimes it is difficult to speak out against things for fear of being considered judgemental but where do we draw the line between judgement & rebuke/correction. It is the fence-sitting & political correctness amongst belivers that is so frustrating as it clouds the truth.
Please bring it back to worship!!! & hopefully the definition of worship is clear.
I have a comment, please don't post anonymously. It means so much more to me when I know who is putting their thoughts & revelations on here regarding this post. I consider myself a fairly strong Christian- yet believe this has been blown a bit out of proportion. Please see this for what it is- humour & nothing else. Thats all folks, move on....
