FAMILY PHOTO OF THE YEAR AWARD GOES TO...

You know how sometimes you can't tell the external differences of people from cultures outside of your frame of reference... this photo kind of portrays that I guess. I think if I were a Muslim it would take me personally a while to recognise my friends. Anyone know how they do it?

When I came back from Africa I looked at the Africans I'd walk past in the street and I'd try to work out where they were from by how they looked, ie Rwanda, Kenya...???? See I'd been educated a little on the characteristics of those demographics and then could tell the differences... a little - quite funny I thought. I've heard some Asian people think all us whities all look the same - "tall with big noses." Kind of like when you get a new car and then your heightened awareness then notices those type of cars everywhere.

Hmmm - photo for thought. Shimmee ma na! I'm glad my God created all people equal!

yep, u have a big nose there Kym... not so tall though?

the b00f™ would like to say that a great deal of thought goes into his posts and are of a somewhat greater level of cognition than others who share this, the peoples blog.

Bryceo... the b00f™ likes the way u think. U quite intelligently bagged the poster without being too harsh - the old rhetorical question. the b00f™ on the other hand pointed out her big nose!

hahaha ha

kym - you have my support, i will not sit in the seat of mockers.

the same cultural frame of reference applies over here, after a while you start to notice the difference between those with chilean descent, the mixes of chinese, the indian peruvians, the puerto ricans. the world is a fantastically interesting place, i get blown away at how we all started from Adam and then God spread us all around the globe and we end up looking different.

Nelson - thanks - I'm glad you see where I was coming from. I love that all peoples similarities are that we are all different and in our awareness of each other it brings us closer.

I'd really like to hear from someone of Muslim culture to bring us some insight into the ways the women recognise each other under the full khimar or hijab? Obviously brings a whole new meaning into 'catching someone's eye'.

I love your posts Kymmie...you definitely challenge my thinking most of the time. I personally don't know anyone of the muslim descent..would like to though? Maybe I need to broaden my sphere.

i was flicking through some national geographics when I was in high school and they had an article on the eye makeup of women who wear birkas. it blew me away, so beautiful and intricate.. just stunning, apparently it's one of the only things these women do to not only distinguish themselves but create their own sense of style..

they only wear them when they're out in public or when male guests are over at their home. But even then they go up to the private women's floor of their home and party on down with all their girlfriends.

i'm still glad i don't wear one though :)

Nice thoughts Clare. I love your posts kymbo - this nz chick is still in shock that bryce could dis such a stunning post. I love it and love your thoughts. we live in a crazy world where difference often creates division - its cool to think that God see's our spirits , all the same, we're uncovered before him. Big love to all the perthites.
