Well faithful elranchorelaxo subscribers! Ado has something to post. For those of you who dont know, which is most if not all of you, I put on hold my career as a student to explore and take advantage of our state's current resource boom.....
Anyway, this is what I would like to share with you all: Last friday (1st of December) I was working on a drilling rig 40km North of the town Leonora (900 km east of Perth). At about 11.15am on this nice sunny day, the drilling rig caught fire! The emergency proceedure for such an event is to "RUN!"..... and that we did. One Hour later there was nothing left of the 2 million dollar piece of machinery, known as 'RIG 5'
'Oh by the way, Im ok, Slightly traumatised...NOT ! I got to finish work early!'

Ado - Great to hear that you're alive...just! Miss having you around.
I'm a bit worried that you've referred to yourself in 3rd person though, which is something the Boof likes to do...not on.
how exciting!! (Ado posting, not the fire or near-death experience)
i like the way money is being spent out there in the bush. looks like "RIG 5" is nothing more than a glorified ute!
I also like the little fire extinguisher in front of the truck. did it actually do anything?
dude, thats wicked. i've heard of it happening, but never actually seen it. was it a schramm? can't believe the fire took out the support truck as well, that is impressive!
i remember my days in exploration, doing pre-collars in kal, but never managed to blow one up!
btw - the mast is still up, where is your hard hat??
Glad you're OK... and you put that little extinguisher to good use... sometimes tragedy can be fun, especially when Aussies are involved.
hahaha thats kinda funny... glad you're alive! but seriously... how bored must you get in that nothingness! there's nothing there!! dirt, trees, a truck...i would die!
andrea - at least there's trees, you should see patagonia, nothing grows above ankle height for thousands of km's.
the desert is fantastic, truely a landscape of awesome power, wind, temperature, rain, storms. i can honestly say that i've discovered God more times in the desert than anywhere else, the absence of man made stuff invites a strong reverant fear of the Creator, i love it. and the night sky - a light show that can't be matched!
Hey Nelson, how right you are!..Its amazing how consistant spectacular lightning shows are out here, especially this time of year!
FYI, the mast is only being held up by the drill rods(a hard hat would of been a good idea), the depth of the hole is 119m, and the fire actually started in the auxillary compressor on the support truck, we watched as the flames were blown onto the rig...1 hour and a few loud explosions later it was all over!
Surely the camera that took these photos had some kind of video capability. Where's the live action pics of fire engulfing the trucks and you making a miracle escape? Less reputable news organisations would have paid top dollar for such footage. Please remember for next time.
Ah bryce... those photos exist, but in my hast to email them from work to my private email, I managed to crash the server of the entire company here in Perth....My boss was not happy! In time I will post the photos of the fire... maybe
yeah, those boost compressors have a lot of grunt. in a rainstorm you can stand in front of the grill and the blasting air will keep you completely dry and warm, although i may not do that anymore given the demonstrated tendancy for them to shoot flames as well!
ok i'm officially impressed... A) Ado posted... B) he got over 10 comments!!
Good work, you should try it more often! you'll have to post some wedding pics next week.
Ado - you getting married? Who's the lucky lady?

Kym is so excited, she asked the question twice.
dude, the b00f™ is concerned that ur stoner fellow employees may have caused said fire and subsequent explosion by packing his/her bong too tight whilst hiding behind said support truck.
Noice work though. and there is nothing like working in the bush where the sun and rain and wind and dust and flies are your only friends...
THIS IS AUSTRALIA!
Bugger the fire burning over the cane fields...
