Are we silly or what..
At my nutrition lecture yesterday our lecturer pointed out something that has been on my mind of late.. why do we drink and pay for bottled water?.. like Australia has the cleanest tap water in the world and yet we are happy to pay around $4 per L.. more expensive than a litre of almost anything.. especially when u can get it for like 70cents per 1000L.. and also heard on the radio yesterday that companies are putting fluoride in bottled water cos our consumption of bottled water is greater than tap water and kids arent getting enough flouride for teeth.. whats up with that?? anyways.. paying for bottled water is silly in my eyes.. its not only economically unwise its environmentally bad too (think of all them plastic bottles!) and most bottled water is like 40% tap water anyways!..

bottled water is a different story in third/developing world. we found during our time in china, and certainly here in peru, its a necessity - you daren't drink the tap water unless you're ready for a parasite or 3. but the costs reflect this necessity - in china it was about 20c for a 600ml bottle, here its about 30c for a 500ml bottle, or we normally pay about 80c for a 2.5l bottle from the supermarket. in the developing world its a necessity of life and people pay for it accordingly, whereas in australia its more of a luxury item, and, likewise, people pay for it according.
yeah.. australians spent around 500 million on bottled water last year.
considering you can buy clean tap water for an entire devloping town for AU$70, its bullshit that we spend so much.
i totally understand when the water isn't clean, but please, our water is clear. check out wateraid.org for a pic of what people are drinking.
i've tried to stop buying, sometimes i forget, more out of habit than anything else...
i enjoy bathing in Evian
the b00f™ drinks beer to save water... it works!
Although he does smell like a brewery?
