Everyone is Irish today

Whilst studying for my design principles i found out some interesting facts about colour and its symbolism.. seeing its St Patrick's Day today.. lets see what the colours green represents;

  • In Celtic myths the Green man was the God of fertility. Brides would have a green gown to represent fertility and sexuality.. but churches banned it due to its pagan significance
  • Green was a sacred color to the Egyptians representing the hope and joy of Spring.
  • Green is a sacred color to Muslims.
  • Japanese Emperor Hirohito's birthday is celebrated as "Green Day" because he loved to garden.
  • It is said that green is the most restful color for the human eye.
  • lack of maturity or experience
  • Some claim that green has great healing power. It can soothe pain.
  • Suicides dropped 34% when London's Blackfriar Bridge was painted green
  • Green means go
  • to be green is to be environmentally conscientious
  • God loves green (think of all the vegetation!)
  • Green is envy too
  • its a colour of balance.. when unsure of what to use as a background.. green is the go

Now green is symbolic in Ireland due to it being the Emerald Isle.. also the colour of the shamrock (Clover leaf) which St Paddy used to explain the trinity to the King Laoghaire

"There is one stem but there are three leaves on it. So it is with the Blessed Trinity. There is one God but three persons stemming from the same divinity."

.. its one of the 3 colours in the irish flag which represents the native people of ireland.. but most importantly.. today green represents IRELAND and St Patrick's day..
