Blues & Roots

Over the weekend a few of us headed to the Freo Esplanade for the West Coast Blues and Roots festival. An absolutely great weekend was had by all! Thanks to Nadine for the free two-day pass. There were acts from all over the world. John Mayer was by far the highlight for me - the biggest disappointment: in one word: Wolfmother.

The girl off that church ad, me, AMP - Nadine and Carmela

UK band Gomez were very impressive - but I needed a drink

the crowd wasn't that big one day one - Xavier Rudd, a one man band

AMP was getting into the hippy vibes - Mal Cook joined us in the evening

Gettin' down

There was definitely a lot of love in the air

Lots of food - Home-town favourites John Butler Trio got a huge response from the crowd

The girls were excited, but not about Wolfmother

Wofmother described in the West as "the bored and the boring" - AMP & random guy

DAY TWO

Making the 15 minute walk into the festival

It was a sell out crowd on day two

Missy Higgins got the crowd excited, but we realised they were screaming for Harry Boy

Sold out crowd

We got our spot close to the front early and sustained ourselves with fairy floss

The man most of us had come to see: John Mayer

A truly amazing musician

I could have gone home a happy man after Mayer's set

Bo Diddley's set was also amazing. He's 80 and was the first rock star, way before Elvis.

JBT! Wooooo!!!

I had to settle for buying and listening to the latest album. Not half bad, but some of the music sounds similar to his previous work. Still he's the best hippy dreadlock tree loving roots musician we have...

On the flip side, I got to stand on the back left of the stage at Church last night. truly awesome. I prayed God would show up, and show up he did. Dave Smith you ROCK!!!! But not as much as John Butler...

man, looks like lots of fun! was going to go on sunday, but sold out, plus church duties.
Do you know who was playing with mayer? was the rhythm section Steve Jordan and Pino Pasildino?
Or maybe not, i think jordan is still with clapton on tour.
Wish i was there.

hehe... wow. Nice shots Brycey.

That's cool, i had no idea how many riverview people went.... I could see Jess wave at me from the crowd... but didn't see anyone else.

Missy higgins was great.. JBT, good... Wolfmother - ok.... John Mayer were good but i was pretty frustrated with them as their knobhead manager wouldn't let us be on stage with the cameras.

So we had to go down into the pit and stand on the corner blocks for an hour or so without being able to move...meanwwhile people from behind us in the crowd complained that we were blocking their view... lol.

But yeah, awesome to be part of it all anyway... really good crowd i thought.. I even had a few cute girls checking me out while i was doing camera.. One girl during Missy Higgins just kept staring at me. Everytime i looked out the corner of my eye she was staring at me and smiling...

Either admiring my OBVIOUSLY amazing looks or just trying to get her mug on the screens... haha, probably the latter...

Despite the fact that she was cute, i found it quite distracting.. haha!
